AURORA – Authorities are trying to repair what they’re
calling an “active gas leak” not far from Fox Ridge Middle School and Cherokee Trail High School.
The Aurora Fire Department says both of the schools remained open, but Oak Hill Way south from Arapahoe Road is closed. There is not a fire or explosion hazard, firefighters say.
Xcel Energy went to the area Monday afternoon to help fix the leak.
Students walking home from Fox Ridge Middle School to the nearby Serenity Ridge subdivision were held at school until their parents could pick them up.
Some southeast Aurora residents reported a natural gas smell Monday evening. Firefighters couldn't figure out the origin.
