The Denver City Council on Monday evening approved a $40,000 payment to a plaintiff who sued the city's public safety department for failing to provide investigative records in a timely

manner.

A Denver District Court judge ruled in November in favor of the plaintiff, Charity Krantz, who said she was assaulted in March 2014 while she was an inmate at the Denver County jail. Krantz had sought documents about her assault claim from the Internal Affairs Bureau of the Denver Sheriff's Department.

The sum, designated "liability claims," was paid to Rathod Mohamedbhai LLC, a law firm that represented Krantz, to satisfy the court order.

Krantz was awarded "reasonable court costs and attorney fees incurred in enforcing her rights" to the information, according to court documents.
