An armed suspect was critically injured in a Denver officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon, police said.

No officers were hurt, authorities said. The suspect, a man, was rushed to a hospital.

The shooting happened about 4 p.m. in the city's Jefferson Park neighborhood near the intersection of 26th Avenue and Zuni Street.

Photos showed officers swarming the area.

Police said the shooting happened as officers were checking on a stolen vehicle when the man got out of a separate vehicle "with a firearm."

"Shots fired! We need cover!" an officer called into his radio.

"Shots fired! Shots fired!" another officer yelled, according to dispatch archives captured on Broadcastify.com.
