After C.J. Anderson punched in a rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, giving Peyton Manning and the Broncos a 22-10 lead, the broadcast camera
switched to show the Manning family’s reaction.
Amid the elation, Eli — the Giants’ quarterback and Peyton’s little brother — was seen with a less-than-enthusiastic look on his face. That clip exploded on the Internet, inspiring a wide-array of memes.
Here’s how he responded when asked about it at the airport by TMZ.
“I was just focused on whether they’d go for two, and knew the defense had to step up and make some stops,” Manning told TMZ.
On what he thought about the memes that spawned from that moment: “Yeah, you know, it’s all good stuff.”
In Eli’s defense, he wasn’t the only one who wasn’t jumping for joy. Archie, the patriarch of the Manning family, was also restrained.
