DENVER – A puppy bowl of epic proportions will be held during the 4 p.m. newscast (at approximately 4:50 p.m.
) on Friday to gear up for Super Bowl Sunday, this is not to be confused with Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl.
Seven, furry, fierce and ferocious puppies from Foothills Animal Shelter will take each other on in a showdown that will make Peyton Manning proud.

Here is a sneak peek at the participating players:
Contestant number one is Savannah, an eight-week-old Chihuahua mix. Savannah may be small, but it does not make her any less competitive. Savannah is known on the field for her relentless drive and determination. Who is Savannah’s favorite Bronco? If you speak Chihuahua, it’s Von Miller. Who can blame her?
Contestant number two is Izzy, a nine-week-old Australian Shepherd mix. Izzy is known for her luscious coat and nimble defense moves. She is highly energetic and can’t wait to show off her tackling skills on the field.
Contestant number three is Salina, another nine-week-old Australian Shepherd mix. Like Izzy, she kills with cuteness. She may be young, but she is sure to mature. Some say she makes running back CJ Anderson look weak.
Contestant number four is Grace, an eight-week-old Boxer mix. She may be cuddly now, but in a few seasons she will bulk-up. Grace, unlike many professional athletes, does not need performance enhancing drugs.
Contestant number five is Lana, another eight-week-old Boxer mix. Lana is the DeMarcus Ware of this puppy bowl. She excels as an outside linebacker and her four-paw footwork is impressive. To date, no one has painted a mural of Lana, yet.
Contestant number six is Holly, an eight-week-old Pomeranian. Holly is the star quarterback of this showdown. Every team needs a Peyton Manning or Cam Newtown, and Holly fits the bill. She is equal parts good looks and talent—unlike Tom Brady, who is mostly just good looking.

Contestant number seven is Teddy, another eight-week-old Pomeranian. Teddy is in a league of his own in this show down as the only male contestant. Unlike Cam Newton, Teddy doesn’t need fancy pants to impress. Don’t be fooled by Teddy’s pristine Pomeranian appearance.
Foothills Animal Shelter is having it’s “Puppy Bowl 2016” starting Friday. Over 20 puppies will be available for adoption and are available on a first come first serve basis. All puppies are spay/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. To learn more, visit http://www.foothillsanimalshelter.org/.
