DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Colorado Securities Commissioner Gerald Rome has filed civil charges against a Colorado
Springs insurance company, alleging the company violated securities laws by targeting elderly investors.
Rome filed civil charges in Denver District Court against Steven Kerbel and his insurance company, Rio National. The complaint says Kerbel violated registration, licensing and anti-fraud provisions.
The complaint follows a 2014 cease and desist order in which Rio National and Kerbel admitted to violating the Colorado Securities Act and agreed to pay more than $800,000 in restitution plus interest, which was never paid, Rome said.
