Thornton police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a child in a car last week.

The victim's description of the suspect, described as a man with a very thin chin-strap-style beard and a newly-cut fade haircut that was flat on top, helped police create a composite of the suspect.

The man had several tattoos on both hands and arms and a husky build. His face was pockmarked with acne scars.

Police were called to the 700 block of West 84th Avenue at 7 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a sexual assault on a child.

A woman and two girls had left a dance class and walked to their car in the parking lot. The girls climbed into the back seat.

Before the woman reached the car, a man climbed into the back seat and immediately began attacking one of the girls, according to a news release by Matt Barnes, Thornton police spokesman.

The woman pulled the two girls out of the back seat to safety and the suspect fled on foot, Barnes said.

The suspect had been wearing boots, a silver belt buckle and a black shirt. One of his tattoos was a cross on one arm.

Witnesses indicated the suspect had being loitering in the area for most of the day. One person had a conversation with the suspect in which the man said he had traveled from Miami looking for work and was staying with friends.

Witnesses stated they had a conversation with the suspect in which he stated that he had traveled from Miami, Florida to Colorado in search of work, and was staying with friends in the area.
