- Liberty Global, John Malone’s European cable giant, could soon be cleared to buy a Belgian mobile phone business for about $1.4 billion.
Telnet, a subsidiary that’s majority-owned by Douglas County-based Liberty Global cable and wireless company, is expected to receive the European Union approval to buy KPN’s 3.3 million-subscriber Belgian wireless business, called BASE Company NV, Reuters news service reported Wednesday.
The report cited two unidentified sources “familiar with the matter.”
Telnet, the largest cable and broadband provider in Belgium, reached a deal in April to buy BASE Company, aiming to incorporate its wireless into service bundles offered to consumers.
