DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Safeway will close its bread plant in northeast
Denver on Feb. 27, eliminating 95 jobs.
The supermarket chain says it will outsource its bread production from the 4500 Dahlia St. plant to an unidentified third party.
That’s according to a company official and a "mass layoff" notice Safeway filed with state labor officials.
“This was a difficult decision made after long and careful deliberation,” saidKris Staaf, a spokeswoman for the company, via email on Tuesday. “We evaluated the volume of work and believe that moving production to a third party will allow us to run a more efficient operation."
