All-star goalkeeper Clint Irwin is the

newest member of Toronto FC, the Colorado Rapids announced Monday.

The Rapids dealt the 26-year-old 'keeper to the Reds in exchange for targeted allocation money, a conditional 2017 first round pick in the MLS SuperDraft and a third round pick in the 2016 SuperDraft to be held Tuesday.

The trade is likely to fuel speculation about Colorado's reported pursuit of Everton and U.S. national team goalkeeper Tim Howard. ESPN reported Friday that the Rapids, who traded up for the No. 1 spot in the MLS allocation ranking, were trying to land the 36-year-old U.S. soccer icon. The Rapids declined to comment on the report.

Last week, Rapids VP of soccer operations Paul Bravo said moving up to the No. 1 spot was "the most significant deal we've done in this club's history."

Irwin was named to the MLS all-star team last season. He burst onto the scene in 2013 when he replaced an injured Matt Pickens. The former Elon University 'keeper appeared in 89 games for Colorado (87 starts), and recorded 25 shutouts.

"Clint has been the consummate professional during his time with our club," said Bravo, in a statement.

The Rapids have already acquired one goalkeeper this offseason. Zac MacMath was added in a deal with the Philadelphia Union. MacMath, 24, was on loan with the Rapids last year. He started three league games and had one shutout. He also started two U.S. Open Cup matches.

MacMath in 2014 became the youngest goalkeeper in league history to start 100 matches.

The Rapids also have goalkeeper John Berner on their roster and have shown confidence in him in the past. He started five games for the Rapids in 2014, earning two shutouts. Berner spent last season on loan with the Charlotte Independence of the USL where he made 17 appearances and posted four shutouts.
