KUSA - January is National Mentoring Month. With more
than 1,200 young people in Colorado waiting for a mentor and more than 70 vetted mentoring programs, there are a lot of opportunities to call and find a program that will fit your schedule and interests.
Created in 2002, National Mentoring Month focuses on the need for mentors and the profound impact mentoring can have on young people. Mentoring has significantly evolved in the last few years, in terms of the amount of research showing its value and the types of programs available for young people and volunteers.
There are now mentoring programs that incorporate:
- group mentoring
- peer mentoring
- sports and outdoor activities (snowboarding, cycling, basketball, racquet sports, etc.)
- arts, singing
- career mentoring
- STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) mentoring
- juvenile justice programs
- tutoring programs
Start an adventure now by calling to learn more about mentoring programs in Colorado or by going online to www.comentoring.org to find a mentoring program in your community that will work for you.
