The Republic of Liberia joined the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) on Monday, July 6th 2015, becoming the 41st member of
Founded in 1997, INBAR is a multilateral and intergovernmental organization hosted by China, and promotes the use of bamboo and rattan in order to maintain a green environment. Dr. Hans Friederich, the Director General of INBAR, expressed his welcome on behalf of the existing 40 members to Liberia during the speech.
Although Liberia possesses one of the last remaining rainforests in West Africa, the country depends on major industries such as agriculture and fishing. Dudley Thomas, Ambassador of Liberia to China, expressed his expectations in joining INBAR.
At 12 o’clock, guests including representatives from the State Forestry Administration of China, Board of Trustees of INBAR and other member countries attended the flag raising ceremony of Liberia.
