Schoolgirls wave goodbye to their classmates selected as suicide bombers

The military takeover of Japan saw the revoking of freedoms as well as brutalization of any Japanese that dared speak

against the military. The military government then sent millions of Japan's youth to die far from home. The war they started culminated with the bombing of the Japanese home islands, most famously the two atom bombs being dropped on majority civilian populations.

While millions of Japanese citizens died as a result of the war, what punishment did the leadership of the military government that brought war to Japan's shores suffer? A few were executed in showy trials, the rest remained in power and proceeded to make profits with their new American business partners. Some of those families are still in high office in the current Japanese government.
