BT has launched a new community website kit that is free for charities and

community groups to access.

The tool kit offers charities a range of functionality including free website hosting, the choice of templates and technical support.

Friends of Kinson Common was one of the first community groups to benefit from this new offering. Its founder, Geoff Budden created a website that was used to promote the volunteer group and raise awareness of Kinson Common as a site of special scientific interest for local residents.

Since the site launched it has proved itself as a useful recruiting tool; several residents have joined the group after seeing and reading the information on the website. "The look and feel of a website can really affect whether someone takes an interest in the content that you create", said Geoff, " I have found the kit very easy to use." He is now an administrator on five websites, four of which also have a conservation focus.

The Community Web Kit is a free resource available from www.btck.co.uk and provides free web hosting and design for not-for-profits and charities.
