National Lottery awards voting opens tomorrow.
Winners of the awards, which honour the achievements
of lottery funded projects, are chosen by the public who vote for their favourite project via phone and internet. The results will be announced during a special awards television show which is due to be broadcast on BBC One in November, hosted by Mylene Klass.
There are seven categories of awards reflecting Lottery funding priorities: arts, sport, heritage, environment, education and voluntary/charity. In the case of the latter category, the three shortlisted charities are:
- Hands That Talk, a northern Irish based charity which works with the deaf;
- Dean and Calvin Trust, a charity that deals with children in the care systems;
- Oasis Domestic Abuse Centre in Thanet, which offers accommodation to women suffering from domestic violence.
Speaking about the award ceremony, host Myleene Klass said, "These finalists showcase the selfless volunteers and unsung heroes who are using Lottery funding to improve the lives of others."
In addition to press coverage, each project will receive a £2,000 cash prize.
Voting starts at 9am tomorrow, closing at midday on 26 September. To vote, visit www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards
