Four women who are involved in the charity sector have made it through to the

final 12 in the search for the UK’s best connected business woman.

Launched by Director Magazine and O2, the competition aims to recognise those women who have used a variety of connections - from networking to social media to positions on boards - to promote their businesses and themselves with maximum effect.

Nominees who have roles within the voluntary sector include Polly Gowers, the chief executive of; Sarah Brown, the wife of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and founder of Piggy Bank Kids, a charity which helps disadvantaged children and those struggling with complications in pregnancy; Martha Lane Fox, Digital Champion and trustee of several charities including Reprieve and Camfed; and Lucy Marcus, business woman founder of Leadership in Conflict, an organisation that works with the public, private and NGO sectors to bring skills to leaders from regions affected by violence and conflict.

Voting for the top six is open to the public with the overall winner being selected at the Institute of Director's Women as Leaders conference on Wednesday 9 November.
