For 2016, the optional 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turborcharged engine, with fuel economy as good as 30 mpg in the city and 42 on the highway, is now available with an automatic transmission. The car's user-friendly interior now uses Sync3, the best version yet of Ford's connectivity system. And, for the first time, Ford is bringing its fire-breathing 350-horsepower Focus RS to the U.S.

Variations on a Theme
In addition to a 4-door sedan, the Focus is available as a 5-door hatchback. The hatchback is available as a pure electric model, with 105 combined MPGe. Range is 76 miles for 2016, projected to go up to 100 miles for the 2017 model. On the high-performance side of the spectrum (and also exclusive to the hatch), there's the 252-horsepower Focus ST and the new Focus RS.

The 2016 Ford Focus lineup starts around $18,000 (with destination) and can top $28,000 when fully loaded.
